JD Fisher
JD writes from his personal experience, both recounting stories from his own journal, as well as storytelling through the lens of his experiences.
He has travelled and lived in every region of Ukraine, soaking in the culture, the way of life and the stories.
The Author's Story
JD travelled to Ukraine as a volunteer in the spring of 2022, founding a non-profit military training program that took him all over the country. During that first year he spent time in each major city and countless small towns, rural communities and quite often at the front line of the war.
In the early summer of 2023, training responsibilities were successfully transferred to Ukrainian instructors and JD formally joined UA Military Intelligence, working on a team in their special operations 'Рота'. As the only non-Ukrainian, he was immersed in the Ukrainian culture with an intimate view of the plight, the history and the life of those living and surviving in Ukraine.
After being wounded in the summer of 2024, JD was sent to Lviv in the western part of the country to undergo multiple surgeries and extensive rehabilitation. During this time, he focused on his writing and his new purpose of sharing with readers around the world ... the "unspoken" parts of life in Ukraine during the survival of Russia's violent attacks.
In addition to the Unspoken project, JD continues to work on his full length book which will explore the mental journey of his decision to leave his life behind and the lessons learned along the way.
