The clanking and chugging sounds of a hard worn diesel engine drown out conversation as we bounce along the rough asphalt road in a mini-bus. The faces of today’s evacuees etched in our memory, we are under an air of anticipation as we return to downtown Kherson. The outlying villages where we’ve been working today are under regular and indiscriminate artillery attack from the Russians, and their ground troops are advancing slowly in an attempt to take them over. While we were completing our last evacuation task of the day, we received notice that there had been a significant attack on downtown.
